Joey Powers is 15 years old and has been playing viola for 4 years. He is homeschooled but has been taking Orchestra at Ipswich Public School. He started playing with Stringendo at the recommendation of his mom and his friend Jake Copp, who plays cello in the orchestra. When he went to the first rehearsal he fell in love with it. Joey has participated in Massachusetts Junior districts 3 years in a row and has won Outstanding musician twice as a member of the Ipswich orchestra. An avid camper and hiker, Joey’s favorite National Park is Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
I really liked the masterclasses with visiting faculty, because I learned a lot of new musical ideas and viola technique.
