Played with the PSO since: 2022
At what age did you start playing the instrument you play in the PSO? Did you learn another instrument first? If so, which one?
I started playing violin when I was eight years old. I started learning the piano at the same time as violin but never practiced!
Why did you choose your current instrument?
I became smitten with the violin when learning about the instruments of the orchestra in elementary school music class. I loved the way it sounded and looked, and knew I’d play in an orchestra one day.
What do you like about playing with a symphony orchestra?
I love the community in playing with an orchestra. As a player, you not only have to learn your part but find your place fitting into the sounds of your neighbors. It is so satisfying to hear our progress from downbeat of rehearsal one to concert, starting as individuals but becoming one giant wave of orchestral sound.
What is your favorite piece to play on your instrument?
Sibelius’ Violin Concerto.
How do you spend your time outside of the PSO?
I spend my workweek as a music therapist in the secondary education setting. In my free time, I love to travel and create music and fiber arts. I play in a string quartet and sub with other orchestras whenever possible.
