Stringendo Youth Ensemble

Bri Mercier, teaching intern

Bri grew up in a small, NH town and enjoyed performing in her school band, where she played principal flute and led her flute section. Bri completed a degree in Youth Development and Music at Plymouth State University where she studied flute with Aubrie Dionne. Bri has played with the Strafford Wind Symphony, Plymouth State University Symphonic Band, PSU Flute Choir and the Manchester Community Music School Wind Ensemble and continues to perform with the Manchester Community Music School Flute Choir. She’s completed internships at the Manchester Community Music School and this fall, she continues to intern, teaching online, with the Portsmouth Symphony Outreach program, Stringendo. Bri placed 1st in the Young Artist category for the 2019 MCMS Performance Competition. She has also performed in a Masterclass with Majorie Hogan, Principal Flute Merrimack Valley Philharmonic. Brianna was recently accepted to Southern Illinois University where she will pursue a Master’s in Orchestral Instrument Performance. She will be studying flute with Dr. Douglas Worthen.

I participated in Stringendo to gain more experience teaching young flutists. I learned how to explain rhythms and tone to my students. I saw them grow musically throughout the year and I am so proud of how far they have come. I hope to use these newfound skills in my Graduate Assistantship at SIU and in the future in my musical career.
